I was born and raised in northern Slovakia, spending most of my childhood within a 40 km radius of the High Tatras. At 18, I moved to Bratislava, the Slovak capital, for university studies and to begin my professional journey. Later, I spent a few wonderful years in Vienna, Austria, where I met my husband and welcomed our daughter. For the past three years, we’ve been living in Prague, Czech Republic. These experiences across Slovakia, Austria, and Czechia have shaped my identity as a Central European. Now, I would like to share with you some parts of my central european heritage, and my current liestyle.
My family reclaimed their land after the fall of socialism, and we engaged in small-scale farming. We raised a few cows, chickens, and pigs, worked with a tractor, and grew crops like potatoes and grains. Though I was involved, I didn’t pay close attention to the details back then. Now, as I embrace slow living, I’m learning these skills anew and invite readers to share their advice when they can.
In spring 2024, my family purchased an old house with a 700-square-meter garden. While the house isn’t livable yet, it offers us a peaceful escape from the fast-paced stresses of city life. Renovating the house and cultivating the garden have become our favorite hobbies, with no pressure since we live and work in Prague. This slow and mindful approach lets us truly enjoy the process.
In line with our commitment to slow living, I will not be sharing photos of myself or my family on this blog. However, I’m delighted to include photos of our garden, projects, and progress. If you happen to recognize me, I kindly ask that you respect our privacy.
Thank you for joining me on this journey. Let’s embrace slow living and central european heritage together.
